SWALLOWING THE SUN
Instead of climbing up a hill
to fetch a pail of water,
Jacob and Juliet giggle
like drunken wildebeests—
push up and down a see-saw,
go spinning around a splintery
merry-go- round red in the face
and then clamber aboard a pair
of playground swings—
soaring higher and higher,
tickled by the thrill in the groin,
they fly all the way up to the sky—
staring at a blazing yellow sun,
until they can no longer see—
imagining the sun must be a gigantic
lemon gelato they must have asap.
They climb up to the very top
of monkey-bars—tongues out,
licking and sucking at the sun
until they swallow it entirely.
